Aren’t dogs grizzly carnivores — don’t they need meat to survive?

It’s a common misconception that dogs are carnivores but our poochie pals are actually omnivores! They can live off the same food as we do, whether that’s meat-based, fish-based, or plant-based recipes. Cool hey!

A little background information for the doubtful doggie lovers out there. Dogs do descend from wolves. But — after millenia as our companions, by our campfires, and then in our homes — they evolved into very different animals. Because they no longer live in the wild, dogs now rely on us for their food. Before we began feeding them packaged dog food, they ate whatever we fed them — meat, fruits and veg too. So our furry friends can very happily thrive on veg!

Over thousands of years, dogs adapted their tastes to the many different flavours and textures they sampled. Today, although dogs can survive eating the same thing every day, they prefer a more diverse menu — just like we do. What’s more, the right combination of plants can deliver all the complete and balanced nutrition your dog needs compared to any meat-based food. You just need the right recipe (hint, we have it!).
