Carbohydrates in Edgard & Cooper cat food
We include about 34-37% carbohydrates in our dry cat food and 1.3% or less in our wet cat food.
While cats are naturally carnivorous and can thrive on a meat-only diet, they can still absorb and digest energy and nutrients from carbohydrates effectively. In fact, cats can easily utilize the energy and nutrients from carbs.
Creating kibble without carbohydrates is challenging because ingredients like (sweet) potatoes or grains serve as binding agents, giving the kibble its structure and crunchy texture.
We carefully select our carbohydrate sources to suit the needs of various cats, including very active cats, indoor cats, and neutered cats.
☝️ For those seeking carbohydrate-free options, our wet food, containing 1.3% carbohydrates or less, is an ideal choice.
Calculate the carbohydrate content of your cat's food
Carbohydrate percentages are not listed directly in the ingredient list, but you can calculate the percentage for any recipe easily.
Subtract the following percentages of recipe ingredients from a total of 100. Percentages will vary depending on the recipe:
Dry cat kibble
6% moisture (this is the same for all of our cat kibble recipes)
X% crude proteins
X% crude oils and fats
X% crude fibre
X% crude ash
Wet cat food
X% moisture (this can be found in the ingredients list)
X% crude proteins
X% crude oils and fats
X% crude fibre
X% crude ash
The remaining percentage will be the carbohydrate content. Our kibble also contains a vital mixture of minerals that contribute to a complete nutritional profile to ensure your cat's needs are met.
