Carbohydrates in Edgard & Cooper dog food
We incorporate approximately 35% carbohydrates in our dry dog food and 1.5% in our wet dog food.
It's challenging to create kibble without carbohydrates since (sweet) potatoes or grains act as binding agents, providing kibble's structure and crunchy texture.
Carbohydrates encompass not only sugars but also fiber and starch. They serve as an excellent energy source for dogs! Surprisingly, dogs can convert carbohydrates into energy more efficiently than they can proteins.
A small portion of crude fiber should always be part of your dog's diet. Crude fiber is like the roughage or "bulk" in food that helps keep things moving smoothly through the digestive system. This ensures proper intestinal function and promotes gut health.
Edgard & Cooper has been meticulous in selecting our carbohydrate sources, ensuring our kibble recipes cater to highly active dogs, less active dogs, as well as neutered dogs.
☝️ For those seeking carbohydrate-free options, our wet food, containing around 1% carbohydrates, is an ideal choice.
Calculate the carbohydrate content of your dog's food
Carbohydrate percentages are not listed directly in the ingredient list, but you can calculate the percentage for any recipe easily.
Subtract the following percentages of recipe ingredients from a total of 100. Percentages will vary depending on the recipe:
Dry dog kibble
8% moisture (this is the same for all of our dog kibble recipes)
X% crude proteins
X% crude oils and fats
X% crude fibre
X% crude ash
Wet dog food
X% moisture (this can be found in the ingredients list)
X% crude proteins
X% crude oils and fats
X% crude fibre
X% crude ash
The remaining percentage will be the carbohydrate content. Our kibble also contains a vital mixture of minerals that contribute to a complete nutritional profile to ensure your dog's needs are met.
